The evolution of off-highway motorcycles, commonly known as dirt bikes, is a long and complicated. The first bikes were in reality nothing more than bicycles with attached modified gasoline engines. After a mixture of two stroke engines two and four times in various models through the years, Honda designs and develops finally a two-stroke engine competitive motocross in 1972. It reached the United States in 1973 and is called the CR250 Elsinore. He immediately becomes the most Rapid production off-road race bike in its class and placed Honda lonely at the top of the pile against racing motocross. In the 1970s, motocross racing would eventually do what the motorcycle manufacturers hoped would. Dirt bike become a leisure activity is reminiscent of the bicycle with its exploding popularity among the general public. The four major Japanese manufacturers will eventually produce a complete product line of off-road bikes in a variety sizes for classes of different races and ages. Other manufacturers have also joined the specialized market including Maico dirt bike, Gas Gas and KTM.
To date, motorcycles continue their evolution with an almost constant improvement in reducing weight, suspension, engine reliability and overall performance.
