The weight of the bike ideal for what?
The word "perfect" implies that there is a perfect weight for a given cycling, but this is not true. The answer to the question posed in the title of an article depends on what the goals and lifestyle that are cyclists. Requirements a professional athlete is very different from the occasional cyclist or someone who uses a bicycle for transportation. However, there is a truth understood by someone who has never worked on a steep hill on a bicycle – fat is a difficult task when the road bucks!
Cycling for health
If you cycle to keep fit and well and are not interested in performance, then you need not worry about your weight, beyond keeping it in a healthy range. Some people refer to the index body mass index (BMI) for this, but I do not like it because it does not take into account how your body is muscular. Muscle is good, fat is excessive bad but the BMI does not account for the difference.
My advice would be to use your bike to help get your weight to the place you do not have a roll of fat around your waist, or just a little more. Do not go so far as to have all your ribs. If you succeed then you will maximize the health benefits of your time on the bike.
Cycling for fitness
If you try to optimize the performance of your bike, you should pay attention to your weight. All excess fat is a burden to carry upwards. You will slide down the slope faster than your buddies thin, but that will never make up for lost time climbing. The steepest hills, the worse it gets.
High bulk muscular body will not help your bike either. Lance Armstrong comes from a triathlon and muscles of the upper body of his disability was a swimmer on the bike. Only when he reduced the size of his upper body than his road cycling performance improved. If it had been a triathlete swimming pool would have suffered when he did. That's why I say that the ideal weight of the bike depends on what type of bike you do, and what are your goals.
The climbing specialist
If you look at the goats 'mountain' of the pro peloton, you notice very quickly that they tend to be extremely thin. The truth is that constant battle to keep their weight down to that level and some have eating disorders. This is not a healthy thing to do, but it is an individual choice to make. If you consider yourself a climber, be very careful not to abuse your weight loss – win a bike race is not worth dying for anorexia is not something to play with.
What is my ideal weight cycling?
I have lots of experience of cycling in the Pennine hills of northern England. I did great and I have thin, and I can tell you all this cycling tour is here easier when thin! I exaggerated a few years ago, but I'm too late. I looked Gaunt, I kept getting sick and I did not have the stamina I have now. I could climb the hills early years quickly, but then I'd get exhausted and perhaps down to a cold, a few days later.
Over the years I have amassed a lot of weight. Of course, I stopped getting sick, but I got a size unhealthy and felt really out of shape.
I'm 6'1 "tall and medium build. For me as a cyclist who enjoys riding in the hills and mountains, beneath 168 pounds is too light, over 182 pounds is too heavy for me to aim for about 175 pounds. You should be able to develop a set of weights like that for yourself. Aim to lose weight until you are thinner and more fit. If you overdo it, put a pound back on and maintain this weight then.
