Even if Saudi Arabia plays a leading role on the world stage both for its political influence in the Middle East and its quality As oil-producing nation, most Americans perceive the country as one shrouded in mystery, like its women are shrouded behind the veil they wear. Most Americans know little of the Saudi Wahhabi or history, what information they have just one film they have seen or a novel they have read. Perhaps it is because Saudi Arabia, the culture is so different from ours that we a fascination with their manners and customs. And when it comes to customs, some are more convincing than the role of women in marriage.
Evolution to freely choose a spouse
It was not so long that most marriages Saudi born as a result of arranged marriages. Often, the couple were chosen for each other to consolidate alliances tribal or family wealth and power. They stress that parents of the groom-to-be have an enormous influence on the couple, and if she believes marriage should measure their attitudes about the business it will be possible to undertake while living in Saudi Arabia.

Perhaps the most difficult adjustment of American women in Saudi Arabia, the culture are not allowed to work outside the home. According to the State Department, there are job opportunities for women other than teaching other women or the medical profession. However, nursing in Saudi is looked down upon, so women would probably not be allowed to see patients unless it was doctor.
Not for everyone
Clearly, the cultural gap between U.S. and Saudi Arabia is so vast that is rarely filled with success in marriage. Because the foundations of marriage and the role of women in the culture of Saudi Arabia are based on the Koran and Sharia, Westerners need more than the book notes in order to navigate the cultural waters of the society.
